PLASMA

What is Plasma?

When energy, such as heat, and high voltage is applied to gas, its molecules split into electrons and atomic nuclei. The resulting aggregate of cations (positively charged ions), anions (negatively charged ions) and electrons is called ‘plasma.’ The three states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. Plasma is known as the ‘fourth state of matter’ and is characterized by its ability to carry electricity. As much as 99 percent of the universe is made up of plasma. Some common examples of plasma include auroras, lightning, neon signs, and fluorescent lights.
